"Building a Violence-Free Society for the Next Generation!"

White Ribbon Day, which aims to prevent and raise awareness of violence against women in the Addis Machinery and Parts Manufacturing Industry, as well as World HIV/AIDS Day, was celebrated on December 9, 2018, at the company's premises. This day, which was celebrated for the 34th time globally and the 20th time in Ethiopia, demonstrated the company's commitment to creating a violence-free work environment in the industry.

Stakeholder Participation and Purpose of the Movement

The event was attended by senior industry leaders, executives, academics from the College of Applied Sciences, health professionals, and all industry workers. The program focused on condemning sexual violence, ensuring women's equality and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

In his message, Ato Ashenafi Abraha, the General Manager of the industry, emphasized that preventing violence against women is not just an institutional process but a civic and human obligation.

Ms. Sesembar Ngatu, the Head of Women and Social Services of the industry, for her part, emphasized the need for behavioral change, saying, "When we celebrate this day, it should not only be a ceremony held once a year, but also by giving due respect to women and protecting them from violence in our daily work activities."

Sister Hanna, the Head of Women and Social Services of the E.E.G., in her research paper titled "Generation and Technology", explained in detail the new types of violence that are emerging in the era of technology and the need to protect the generation from these dangers. In addition, through the extensive awareness-raising course presented by Ms. Bezawit, the employee was better informed about his rights and obligations.

Ms. Tagist, a health expert at the College of Applied Sciences, noted that building a healthy workplace is crucial for the growth of the industry; she advised that every employee should protect themselves and their families by getting tested for HIV every three months. This will help prevent potential health risks at work.

The day also saw the swearing-in ceremony led by Ms. Dagashwerk (Head of the Business Department and Gender Focal Point at the College of Applied Sciences).

They pledged to strongly oppose violence against women, children and the elderly,

not to remain silent when violence occurs and to report it to the relevant authorities,

and create a workplace where gender equality prevails.
