The Addis Ababa Employment and Skills Bureau is one of the key institutions of the city administration established by Proclamation No. 84/2016.

The bureau is carrying out multifaceted activities with the vision of creating sustainable employment opportunities in the city by 2022 A.D. by producing a qualified and competitive workforce and ensuring favorable working conditions.

In order to achieve the vision, it has been carrying out various capacity building activities to create a leadership and workforce with a common understanding of the sector's concepts and is still working.

Today, training was provided to sector leaders from the center to the districts, as well as to the deans of the relevant technical and vocational training colleges, on the new concept of the sector, the transition plan and implementation of youth employment creation, and the bureau's 10-year goals.

In his speech at the training program, the Head of the Addis Ababa Employment and Skills Bureau, Honorable Ato Million Mathews, said that the leadership should strive for the success of the institutional plan by thoroughly considering the existing situation of the city and improving its leadership skills.

For this, he said that it is necessary to create strong organizations at all levels and strive for great results by having a common understanding of the ideas.

He also mentioned that the bureau has done a lot of work in terms of making job creation work not speculative but scientific methods and supported by research.

In his presentation based on the topics of the training, the head of the bureau, Ato Asfaw Legesse, Head of the Employment and Food Security Sector, said that the bureau is carrying out research-based activities to reduce the unemployment rate in the city from 27.7 percent to eight percent.

Job creation is being led by skills, and job seekers are being trained in technical and vocational training colleges to create sustainable job opportunities.

It was stated that in the coming years, it is necessary to work diligently to achieve the 10-year plan by increasing job creation.

The participants of the discussion, for their part, confirmed that they will work together to achieve the plan and ensure the economic benefits of the citizens.
